The key here is to knead, knead, knead. I'd say about 6-8 minutes to knead the color of the dye into the bread dough. It takes a bit and will seem like it won't come together but it eventually will!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…with lots and lots of Christmas sweets and treats! Heck, even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, it is the season to stuff your face with party food and sweets, right? I love baking Christmas cookies and thought I’d try to come up with something different this year.

We baked up this new Christmas Bread Recipe, which is so fun to make!

It is easy with the help of a loaf of refrigerated bread dough from your local grocery store, and of course, a little food coloring and creativity.

Christmas Bread Recipe Directions:

Grease a loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray. Place a frozen loaf of dough into the pan. Cover with plastic wrap sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Refrigerate overnight or until thawed.

Once dough is thawed, remove from pan and divide into thirds.

Wrap one section of dough in plastic wrap sprayed with nonstick cooking spray and set aside.

Put on rubber gloves. Pull apart one piece of dough and add food coloring.

Knead for 6-8 minutes until color is evenly mixed through. It will take some time, but eventually come together. Wrap in plastic wrap sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside. Repeat for the green.

Roll green dough onto a floured surface until about ⅜" thick. Roll uncolored dough onto a surface lightly dusted with flour until ⅜" thick. Lay the white dough on top of the green dough.

Repeat with the red dough, and stack on top of the others.

Roll the dough into a loaf shape.

Place into a greased loaf pan, seam side down. Cover with plastic wrap sprayed with nonstick cooking spray and allow to rise for 1-2 hours.

For the bread to rise, I find it easiest to warm an oven and then turn off the heat. Place the loaf pan, covered with plastic wrap, in the oven for 60-90 minutes or until double in size. Remove from oven.

Preheat oven to 350 and bake, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes or until edges begin to turn golden brown.
